Karen Curtis grew up in New York City where she has worked with a variety of mediums including sculpture, textile, metal-smithing and jewelry. After studying fashion at F.I.T. and in Florence, Italy, she worked in fashion, designing clothing, scarves and outerwear. With her creativity and the power of crystals, as well as the beauty and brilliance of gems, she began her journey into the world of jewelry.
Karen Curtis started her jewelry company in 2000. She combined her metal-smithing background with her color skills she learned while designing scarves for Halston. The result was fantastic! Beautiful bursting color stories of SWAROVSKI® ELEMENTS, meticulously placed into necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. The company has since evolved, adding a home decor series. From Timeless antique chandeliers drapped with STRASS® Swarovski Crystals to new modern handblown glass pendant lights, Karen crystallizes each light with amazing color and sophistication. Glass blowing being the newest edition to her collections brings the pop of color her jewelry has been known for, to a more decorative object for the home.
Since New York City is the center of sophistication, elegance and glamour, it is no surprise that these are the characteristics Karen reflects in her jewelry and lighting collections. Each piece of jewelry is delicately made and offers a special uniqueness. They are all handcrafted with the highest quality of crystals: MADE WITH SWAROVSKI® ELEMENTS mixed with sterling silver and/or gold-filled components. They are stylish and sophisticated. Many styles in the collection are made with rare vintage SWAROVSKI® ELEMENTS, making these pieces one-of-a-kind or limited edition and includes a signature tag.
The Art Glass
Using a Glass facility called Urban Glass, Karen creates all of her work in New York City. Glass might be traced to her love of creating and her love of color. "The idea of taking something from a rough liquid form into a solid work of art never ceases to amaze me". She uses various techniques to apply color and create designs, mainly through the use of canes, individually made colored pieces of glass. These canes allow her to create patterns that have structure and give the ability to play with color combinations.
